Chapter One - The Spread

[Rome]: ".....This is an underground cave."

Ash looks around, heads towards dry land and stumbles to his feet.

[Ash]: “Do you think… do you think we can stop the fairground ride now? Please?”

Ash wanders over to a wall of the cave and throws up. He then covers the vomit in dirt so that it isn’t stinking the cavern out. He notices a small crack of light coming through the wall.

[Ash]: “Hey… There’s light coming through here! There must be a way out!”

Charm

Is this a nightmare? What’s happening to me? ….I thought that this was going to be the end of my life. I wiped the water from my eyes as I continued to float in the water. I can’t believe that we were actually inside an underground cave. It was so dark, none of us could really see anything. I could hear the sound of Ash’s voice yelling on the other side.

[Ash]: “There’s light coming through here!”

I tried my best to get a vision of where Ash was currently standing. I can tell that everyone was nearby.

[Benny]: “Is everybody alright?”

We were each trying to keep our heads above water, except for Ash who had made it on dry land. I can see Aria, Rome and Benny floating in the water with me.

[Rome]: “This is an actual underground cave, it’s pretty big.”

{Aria}: “How did we get down here?”

I had to really focus on my surroundings….

{Charm}: “It was storming outside, the wind, the rain and the lightning. The forests, we were deep in the woods and then we had those series of earthquakes during the storm.”

All I wanted to do was look for Rome and make sure that he was okay. Rome and I barely know each other at school. He was always a nice guy, we were all running through the woods trying to find a way out. The storm got really bad, the ground was so muddy, we all fell down so deep. The earthquakes, when we all landed in the lake, I thought it was over until the water inside the lake ran us off completely and it felt like we were going to die. All the way down to the ground we went, somehow, we ended up in this cave….

{Aria}: “Somehow, those earthquakes had caused the grounds to crack open or something. We ended up down here in this cave. We could have died…”

[Benny]: “But we live…”

Rome looked over at Ash…

[Rome]: “Ash, are you sure that you found a way out? I don’t know if….”

Charm screams out of nowhere!

{Aria}: “Charm what is it?”

Ash quickly jumps back into the water and swims over to Charm because he is under the impression that she is suddenly in danger! Once Ash made it over to her in the water, she quickly shakes her head and begins to look down into the water.

{Charm}: “Look down, look down, there is something here inside the water with us. Look down, I see lights beaming…”

We each began to look down as we spotted a series of bright green lights flashing from deep underground in the water. None of them could take their eyes off what they were witnessing from down below. Something big was coming up from below the surface inside the cave. Charm tried her best to stay calm, whatever it was that was flashing lights underground, it began to move further up above the surface. It appeared to be some sort of………….

Charm screamed again!

A full blown massive spaceship that was covered in all black began to appear from beneath the surface! Green lights were flashing on both ends of the spaceship. The spaceship quickly appears as Rome, Ash, Benny, Aria and Charm were now laying on top of the spaceship as it pours right out from the underground of the cave.

[Rome]: “WOAH!”

They were each laying right on the top surface of the ship! The ship was the size of two school buses next to each other! It looked black and metallic, with futuristic lights and windows around it.

[Benny]: “Guys, be careful.”

One by one, they each stood up on their own two feet. The lights coming from the spaceship had allowed them to get a better view of the cave around them. Finally, the spaceship comes to a complete stop as it begins to float inside the gave like a mini cruise ship.

[Rome]: “Stay close, stay close guys.”

{Aria}: “Oh my gosh,.....Is this…..”

[Benny]: “A boat……”

I was soaking wet, I tried to keep my balance while remaining on top of what appeared to be some type of ship. Everybody remained near each other. The whole spaceship was big enough to support the five of them as they remain on top of it.

{Charm}: “.....This is not a boat.”

The tone of Charm’s voice, you can tell that she was an emotional wreck.”

[Rome]: “..........It’s a spaceship.”

Two sliding doors on top of the spaceship quickly slides open!!!!

Rome, Ash, Charm, Aria and Benny quickly falls right down into the spaceship!

They all collapse inside the ship. Their surroundings were filled with a floor made out of metal, futuristic computers, computer screens, bright lights, futuristic unknown devices and equipment. A wide range of scenery as Charm pulls herself up off the floor.

Ash goes towards Charm to make sure she’s OK but then notices that Benny is heading towards her for exactly the same reason. Ash decides to hold back so as not to cause a fuss. After all, it’s Benny’s right to check on his girl.

Ash

So it turns out aliens are real! Who knew? There we were, the five of us, Aria, myself, Benny, Charm and Rome all inside an honest-to-goodness spaceship! I could hardly believe my eyes. But then again, I couldn’t see much at all. It was so bright on the spaceship, I could be forgiven for thinking that I’d died and was seeing Heaven’s Pearly Gates - if the Pearly Gates were futuristic and motorised. I’m not all that religious but who knows?

I pinch myself a little to make sure I’m still alive -ow! OK, no worries there. I then look over towards Rome, who is a real science fiction geek so he has to be loving this. I can’t really see his face because of the lights but still I look over in his direction.

[Ash:] “Rome… are you getting this?”

Still in awe, I walk towards him. Suddenly however I freeze in place. I hear a noise. It’s… no… yes! The unmistakable *CLAK CLAK* of horses hooves. How on Earth did horses get down here in a cave? Let alone in a spaceship. Still, after tonight, I was willing to believe anything.


Rome

We all stayed close to each other, there was plenty of light within the room. The spaceship was long and there was a long pathway that would lead them further down. Benny felt the need to walk a little further ahead.

{Aria}: “Benny wait up.”

[Benny]: “Hello?”

Charm gasps as she could see a moving figure all the way down within the shadows of the ship. The moving object continued to move forward as they were all now able to see what was standing before them. The inside of the ship felt like the inside of a ship for astronauts. So much technology surrounded them but the only thing that they could focus on was the mysterious creature who stood across from them. Rome couldn’t believe his eyes. It wasn’t a human, it wasn’t an animal. Aria held Charm’s hand and she could tell that she was getting anxiety. Benny tried to examine the mysterious looking creature. The creature had four legs and was basically on all fours, like a deer. It was a full blown blue looking creature. It had blue fur, a long tail with a sharp blade at the end of it’s tail. The eyes were perched up on some long looking antlers of sorts. The top half was built like a human’s top half but it was fully blue with a minor length of blue fur. The creature stared directly at us, just as much as we stared at it.

<Do not be afraid…>

Rome jumped.

[Rome]: “Did you guys hear that?”


Ash shook his head, but he wasn’t saying ‘no’ to Rome. He just couldn’t believe what he just heard.

[Ash]: “Umm”

Ash said, looking at the creature.

[Ash]: Was… that…? Did you just talk?

Ash couldn’t get his head around this creature standing before them all. It was scary and yet, it had almost a majestic quality to it.

[Rome]: “Who are you? What are you? What are you doing here? Are you going to hurt us?”

“She is not going to hurt you..”

The mysterious human sounding voice just came out of nowhere. From behind the back area of the spaceship, a young male teen with short black hair and fully nude begins to step forward from behind the alien creature.

[ ? ? ? ]: “Do not be afraid, humans, you are safe here.”

Benny was confused to see a full blown naked guy standing right next to the alien looking creature. The young teen looks down at his body and then he walks over and grabs a long dark brown blanket. He wraps it around his body from the chest down.

[ ? ? ? ]: “My apologies, I have remembered that humans are known to cover up their human bodies among other humans. I am sorry, it has been a long time since I have been on my home planet earth.”

[Rome]: “Who are you? What do you want?”

The mysterious young man appeared to mean no harm. The alien creature began to move around from out of his spot. Charm and Aria took some steps back but the boys Benny, Ash and Rome seemed less frightened the more they looked at them.

[ ? ? ? ]: “My name is Kyoulichrox Asfragentlenik, and this is my mother Orutrulichuxum Asfragentlenik.”

He pointed at the alien.

{Aria}: “Female, oh it’s a female, your mother? She’s an alien. Are you an alien?”

[Kyo]: “No, I am human, just like all of you.”

Ash looked at Kyo in disbelief.

[Ash]: “I’ve heard of adoption, but this...”

Ash crosses his arms and looks at Kyo

[Ash]: “Look… Mr. Kyo...Ky… Can I just call you Kyo? What are we doing here, then? Can you help us get home?”

The longer they remained inside the ship, the more comfortable the majority of them felt. Taking some steps further, Rome felt very intrigued by all of this.

[Oru]: <All of you somehow found our spaceship here underground. We have been here for 72 hours, earth time.>

{Aria}: “I can’t see her lips move, she doesn’t even have lips, how is she able to communicate with us? I can hear her in my head though.”

[Kyo]: “It’s called thought-speak, it is the language that Andalites use to communicate. As a human, I speak human english but I can actually speak all human languages, I can also speak the Andalite language of fruglok.”

[Benny]: “Andalites? That is what you aliens are called?”

[Oru]: <Yes, I am from the planet Esframok.>

[Charm]: “How are you related to an alien? I mean, if you really are human?”

Kyo nodded his head as he began to walk around among all of them. He wanted to get a good look at them all. It was obvious that Charm was still nervous as she stood further back, but Aria moved further out with the boys.

[Kyo]: “I am human just like you, I am of the human age of 18 years.”

[Benny]: “Just like us.”

[Kyo]: “I was born on this planet of earth, but I was abandoned in the woods. I was found by two Andalite alien beings who raised me and took care of me in the deep forest for four earth years until they finally decided to take me to their planet and raise me there.”

Looking at Kyo, you can tell that he comes from an asian decent. To be honest, he was handsome, just like Ash, Benny and Rome.

[Rome]: “How long have the Andalites been around? What brings you to our planet?”

[Oru]: <The Andalites are a peaceful and highly intelligent race that has been around for thousands of years before human life. We have traveled and fought all across the galaxy. We arrived on earth, just a few of us for a short period of time. A few of my people including myself had arrived on earth 20 years ago. We spent time studying human life while remaining hidden from the human race. We did not want to be exposed to earth, therefore we returned home and brought Kyoulichrox with us.>

{Charm}: “Did you come back to drop him back off home to earth?”

[Oru]: <Yes, because your planet earth is being invaded….>

Ash
I’m still looking at this ‘Andalite’ and Kyo. I can’t believe my eyes and my ears. I walk a little closer just as Aria grabs my hand but I gently tug it away.

[Ash]: “But I thought you said you were a peaceful species? Now you’re invading us?”

I look at Kyo who seems to be shaking his head. Clearly I’m wrong.

[Ash]: “Look, I apologise, I mean no disrespect. It’s just… A lot to take in. So if you aren’t the ones invading, who is?”

I smile a half smile…

[Ash]: “ET? Little grey aliens? The aliens from the ‘Mass Effect’ series of video games?”

I find myself starting to relax a little and these jokes are coming rapidly. It’s a sort of defense mechanism. However, I see Kyo is less than impressed so I hold off and raise my hands as an apology.

[Ash]: “Sorry. I’m joking. Sorry.”

Benny looked at Ash like he was a nutjob. Kyo looked a bit confused.

[Kyo]: “Jo-king?”

{Aria}: “We’ll get you a human handbook later Kyo. Please, tell us how earth is being invaded.”

Kyo’s Andalite mother Oru begins to walk over to her right side. She steps over near a table filled with computer technology devices. She types in a few codes on a keyboard as a big hologram screen opens up. Rome and his friends were now able to see a hologram of a slimy looking slug without it’s shell.

[Oru]: <Planet earth, your planet is being invaded by an evil alien race known as The Yeerks. They are small living slugs who are able to enter inside the ear of a human or any alien creature to gain their full control of them. They become their host. They will gain all of their memories, skills and abilities. The yeerk race has been the Andalites enemy for thousands of years. They have enslaved alien races among other planets. They have currently enslaved two major alien races. The main yeerk in charge of the whole entire alien race is known as The Elite One. The Elite One is the main queen and ruler of the whole yeerk race.>

{Charm}: “They seem helpless, I mean, they are so small, they are slugs.”

[Kyo]: “Yes but they are powerful depending on who they currently have control of.”

[Benny]: “The yeerks are coming here?”

[Kyo]: “They are already here….”

Charm felt her heart sank….

{Charm}: “So, they are an alien race that are all about enslavement? They want to enslave the human race next? To make us all become hosts?”

[Kyo]: “That is currently their mission. We don’t not know what all of their intentions are for this planet, we mainly know their desire to enslave the human race.”

[Benny]: “How did the yeerks even get over here?”

Oru switched the hologram to reveal the visual of an evil looking female alien being traveling through the solar system.

[Kyo]: “One of the alien races among the universe that the yeerks have successfully enslaved are an alien race known as the Tyarks. The Tyarks are a strong alien race that have the power to travel in long galaxy distances in a matter of minutes. One of the main Tyarks that have been enslaved by a yeerk is the main queen of the Tyark tribe known as Queen Vorpax. She is gifted with special abilities, including traveling underground.”

[Rome]: “Is she here now?”

[Kyo]: “Yes…”

I see the gravity -no pun intended - of the situation a bit more and my smirk is gone. I look at Kyo apologetically and I walk up to the screen a little more to get a better view.

[Ash]: “OK… I’m sorry about before. It’s a defense reflex. So what do we do? Should someone call the FBI, or CIA or hell...NASA?”

I look over at Kyo and see he is once again confused. I try and clear it up as best I can.

[Ash]: “FBI and CIA are law enforcement agencies. NASA are actually studying how to go into space and whether there’s intelligent life in the Universe”.

[Benny]: “No, no, we can’t go to the FBI, we can’t tell anyone about this.”

[Kyo]: “You are correct.”

{Aria}: “Vorpax and the yeerks have been down here on this planet for God knows how long. We don’t know who is a host and who isn’t. At this point we can’t guarantee that anybody can be trusted. No even our families, I mean, we are talking human hosts for an alien race.”

Kyo nodded.

[Kyo]: “The yeerks have their intentions of being here.”

{Charm}: “Who is going to stop the yeerks? What are we supposed to do?”

[Rome]: “We could all die including the ones we love rather easily if we try to expose this to the world.”

[Kyo]: “For everyone’s safety, nobody must know.”

{Charm}: “Where are the andalites, are they coming to protect us?”

[Oru]: <The Tyarks have completely invaded my Andalite planet. They have destroyed devices that would allow my people to travel here in time to protect your planet. The Tyarks are currently doing everything they can to hold my people off.>

[Kyo]: “My mother and I had to travel here to earth in time to stop Vorpax and this yeerk invasion. Our planet is going to be doomed if we don’t act now. My mother is a strong Andalite warrior. She has been able to detect Vorpax’s location. Queen Vorpax has been in a deep slumber in the deep underground while creating the yeerk pool.”

{Charm}: “Yeerk pool?”

Great, it’s gonna be one of THOSE days. Well, Mom always said not to eat in bed. Guess it wouldn’t hurt to listen once in a while.

I wipe my hand with some tissue I have nearby and grab my phone. 8:15am!

You have got to be kidding me!

I rub my eyes, yawning and notice that there’s a text message from Rome. I open the text.

[Rome Text: Hey Ash, I hope you made it home safely last night. Benny came by my house this morning to help me take care of Kyo. See if you can come by as soon as you can.]


I emphatically leap out of bed and jump in the shower. After the quickest shower in recorded history I throw on a black sweatshirt and jeans with my everyday sneakers and race out of the door, heading to Rome’s place. Just before I leave the house, my mom tells me that she wants me to help her run a few errands.

Sigh…. I guess I'll come by later this afternoon.

Charm

Did everything really happen last night? Maybe the whole thing was just a nightmare, or maybe all of it was true. Earth truly has become invaded…?




My whole entire brain was on an emotional rollercoaster. I cried all last night thinking that everybody I care about is going to become infested by a yeerk slug. I woke up the next morning putting on a brave face. I couldn't tell my parents about anything that happened last night. I smiled and ate breakfast with them while thinking in the back of my mind if Queen Vorpax is going to come bursting through the door to capture my family.

3:07PM, Aria came over my house so that we could head over to Rome's house. Making our way through the neighborhood, we spotted Ash who was also headed to Rome's house. Once the three of us got there, Rome came to the front door and signaled for us to meet him in the back of the house. There was a double door behind Rome's house that will take you downstairs and lead you to his basement. Rome opens the double doors and escorts me, Aria and Ash down into the basement.

Of course Ash has been over Rome's house hundreds of times but this would be my first time.

Once the three of us got inside the basement, I was impressed by how big it was in size. Rome could have a party down here if he wanted to. The basement had carpet, some couches, a pool table, a T.V., a table, and a bedroom set up around the corner.

{Charm}: "Hey…"

I looked at Rome who was standing by the pool table. The tone in my voice was draining, emotionally. I still wondered if last night was all a dream until I spotted Benny and Kyo coming from around the corner where the bedroom area was.

There we were…Rome, Benny, Ash, Charm, Aria and Kyo, all assembled as we stood around Rome's basement. The atmosphere was a little quiet as Aria sighs.

{Aria}: "Are you guys ok?"

[Benny]: "Yeah, are you?"

{Charm}: "Barely."

Charm sits on the couch as she looks over and notices Kyo's appearance. It made her smile.

{Charm}: "Woah, Kyo, you got all cleaned up. Nice haircut and clothes."

[Benny]: "Yeah, I went out to a few clothing outlet stores this morning to get Kyo some clothes to wear. Luckily we both have the same shoe size."

Rome was leaned up against the pool table.

[Rome]: "I didn't get much sleep last night. When I brought Kyo home with me, we spent the whole night talking. He was telling me everything about his life on the Andalite planet and what the Andalite race is all about."

[Benny]: "The Andalite planet has technology that kept Kyo alive and healthy without needing food or water. Now that he's here on earth, he's been trying food from Rome's kitchen."

Kyo looked around the basement area while feeling the texture of his t-shirt that Benny bought him.

[Kyo]: "Planet earth is so fascinating. Now that I have arrived, I have been using my human sense of taste. Your human substances known as food gives me positive sensations and vibrations. I have also been enjoying the clothing attire that humans use to cover the human flesh. Benny said I looked good."

Kyo shoots a smile at Benny.

{Aria}: "If Kyo is going to be hanging with us, we gotta work on his social interactions with other people outside of us."

[Kyo]: "Hmmm, I understand your theory of the possible result of me giving away the identity of my purpose of being on this planet."

Awkward Pause...

{Aria}: "Are you guys sure that Kyo is going to be ok?"

[Benny]: "Rome and I have been taking good care of Kyo all morning. He's eating and he slept decent in Rome's bed."

Kyo looks over at everyone and then he begins to pace a little.

[Kyo]: "I appreciate the human emotions of kindness and loyalty that you all have shown to me, but you must understand that I contain high level intelligence beyond human expectation. I am not just a human boy, I was raised by Andalite Warriors."

There was a high level of awkward tension and silence in the room. They all stood around looking at each other while Kyo began to pace around a little bit while checking out Rome's basement.

{Charm}: "Ok, did what happen last night really happen?"

[Benny]: "Charm, we were inside a real spaceship last night. Kyo's mother had four legs and fur. Kyo is from another planet. We had to escape an underground cave because a swarm of creepy looking alien freaks dug holes underground and went after the ship. None of it was a dream."

Charm sighs.

{Charm}: "Well I'm going to pretend that it was…"

Charm was headed for the door.

{Aria}: "Charm, come back."

She sighs.

Benny approaches Charm and blocks her path.

[Benny]: "You didn't tell anyone about this, did you?"

Looking into Charm's eyes, she was trying not to get upset.

{Charm}: "No i didn't, I could never tell my family what i saw."

[Rome]: "Guys, seriously, this has to be STRICTLY kept between us. We can't tell anyone anything. Kyo's real identity has to be secret."

[Benny]: "Kyo is our friend from school, that will be the story."

[Kyo]: "I will co-exist among other humans. I must remain here on my born planet for the sake of stopping the yeerk race."

Kyo made his way over to sitting on one of the couches. He must have been intrigued at how comfortable it felt. He leans up against the couch with his head back.

[Benny]: "The news has been covering the earthquakes this morning. They said it's unnatural for earthquakes to develop multiple times."

{Aria}: "What if someone finds Kyo's spaceship?"

[Kyo]: "They will not find it. The yeerks do not want to be exposed to the human public. The yeerks will remain as a hidden army with an agenda for enslavement. They will somehow dispose of the spaceship."

[Benny]: "What about your mother? Do you think she survived? We shouldn't have left her."

[Kyo]: "....We had no choice. We needed to escape in order to survive. The Baseliaks were swarming into the cave in order to hunt down my ship with my mother."

[Rome]: "How did the yeerks know that you were down there?"

[Kyo]: "I do not fully believe that their intention was to hunt down my ship, the reason the Baseliaks came underground is because of the signals that they detected from Vorpax."

{Aria}: "Wait...What?"

Rome took in a deep breath as he stood in front of everyone.

[Rome]: "Vorpax herself was deep underground in that cave with us. She was in a deep sleep, buried deep under water. The reason we had all those earthquakes is because she was waking up from her deep sleep. Kyo and I talked a lot last night…."

Charm shook her head, she didn't truly understand any of this. Charm's emotion showed upon her face. Kyo looks over at everyone, he doesn't know much about human emotions and how they reflect through communication, but he knew that he needed to tell them everything that they needed to know. The room was silent once again as Kyo gets up off the couch and begins to look at Ash, Benny, Rome, Aria and Charm while slowly pacing himself around the couch area where everyone was sitting….

Kyo decided to take in the atmosphere, he was deep into his thoughts as he kept a gaze on all of his newfound friends in the basement.

[Kyo]: “....I could have perished alone in the woods if it was not for the Andalite race finding me as an infant child and taking me in as their own. The yeerks are pure evil, they look for enslavement and domination. The Andalites wanted to arrive on earth to protect the human race from what was about to come. The yeerks was able to arrive on earth due to Vorpax’s special abilities as an alien being. She can travel fast distances beyond the galaxy and she is able to store millions of yeerk slugs into her digestive system and hold them within her cells for a long period of time. When she arrived on earth, she dug herself deep underground, to where she would not be discovered by the human race. Over time, she was able to dig holes and create nests, she released all of the yeerks slugs from out of her body and began to develop a home for the yeerk race deep underground. The name of the yeerks natural habitat is known as the yeerk pool. Vorpax has been able to build an entire yeerk pool deep underground where the yeerks themselves can exist here on earth.”

[Benny]: “You said that Vorpax has been in a deep sleep for a long time.”

[Kyo]: “Yes, it took a long number of months for Vorpax to grow and develop a massive yeerk pool underground for the yeerk family to live in. All of that strength and energy had caused her to weaken. In order for her to regain her strength and grow stronger, she put herself into a deep sleep while resting inside the yeerk pool among the yeerk race.”

[Rome]: “So...For awhile now, Vorpax and the yeerks have been living right here on earth and nobody was able to detect it?”

[Kyo]: “The only ones who knew of the yeerks being on earth was the Andalites on their planet.”

{Aria}: “The yeerks infested Vorpax and took over her brain because they knew that she would be of good usage to the yeerk’s focus on enslaving earth. If the Andalites knew that she was down here, why didn’t they arrive sooner to stop her before she woke up?”

[Kyo]: “The Andalites were too busy trying to survive and keep their planet alive due to the massive attack on our planet from the yeerks. The Andalites are unable to arrive to earth now due to everything that is currently happening on our planet. My mother and myself wanted to protect earth the best way that we could. We both got on our spaceship and headed towards earth to stop Vorpax. We used our technology to detect where Vorpax was located on earth. We found out that she was buried deep underground, here on earth. We landed our ship and went deep underground into the caves that lured us to where her energy was transcending from. By the time we had arrived on earth, Vorpax had woken from her slumber and the yeerks were already here.”

{Charm}: “When we were under attack by those creepy alien things that dug holes and came inside the cave, how did they get there? How did they even know that we were down there?”

[Kyo]: “Vorpax has the ability to telepathically communicate with her yeerk infested allies on other planets. The reason why the Baseliaks found us in the cave is because Vorpax was communicating with them and they picked up on her energy signals. The yeerks have enslaved three main alien races, The Tyarks, The Baseliaks and The Klemmers. They will always know how to find Queen Vorpax due to her mind linked to them. The baseliaks arrived in the cave due to the awakening of their leader Vorpax, they knew that she was going to rise.”

[Benny]: “So basically, you and your mom’s ship was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. We should have never left your mother on the ship.”

Kyo looks at Benny.

[Kyo]: “Benny….My mother is a strong Andalite warrior who fights bravely. My mother ordered me to leave and keep all of you safe. My mother knew that I was the only chance of this planet being protected from the yeerk empire.”

{Aria}: “How has Vorpax and the yeerks been able to infest humans and turn them into hosts since she arrived here?”

[Kyo]: “I do not know…”

{Charm}: “How many humans around here have already been infested? How far away is the yeerk pool? Are the yeerks located in multiple parts of the world? How big of an invasion are we dealing with?”

[Kyo]: “I do not know, but one thing that I do know is that we still have time. Vorpax has been in a deep sleep for quite some time. I know that the yeerks want to infest the whole entire planet, but realistically that will not be an easy challenge for her. The yeerks do not want to expose themselves to the world, if they are exposed, who knows what they might do in retaliation.”

{Charm}: “So let’s go tell everyone about this then.”

Charm stood up from her seat and Aria shook her head while standing up with her.

{Aria}: “Charm, no, no, we cannot tell anyone about this.”

They all began to stand up. Rome sighs.

[Rome]: “We don’t know who is infested as a host and who is a normal human being.”

{Charm}: “And how do we know that any of us isn’t a host with a yeerk in their brain?”

Aria shook her head.

{Aria}: “Charm….If any one of us was a host? We would all be either captured or dead. Don’t you get it? This is a war based on domination and enslavement. The minute anyone finds out about this? Their life will be in serious danger. The best way to protect everyone around us is by them not knowing.”

Benny leans in closer to them all.

[Benny]: “For now on, when it comes to this, we just talk to each other..….”

Silent pause.

Charm had her arms crossed as she closed her eyes and sat back down in her seat. Aria went over to comfort her best friend as she puts her arms around her shoulders. The sobbing can be heard as Charm had her face buried in her hands.

Benny was deep in his thoughts as he shook his head.

[Benny]: “My family…..”

[Rome]: “What?”

[Benny]: “My family…..I mean, with this yeerk invasion now happening, something bad could happen to them? They could either somehow become a host or maybe even get killed for refusing to be infested. I mean, what am I supposed to do about my family.”

{Charm}: “What about my family? Who knows how long the yeerks have actually been down here on earth. I mean, what if my own mom is a host? What if my mom gets captured somewhere by hosts and becomes one of them tomorrow? What are we supposed to do?”

Charm wipes away her tears..

Moving forward, Kyo gets closer towards all of them as he looks at each of them.

[Kyo]: “With my heart and my soul, I will do everything I can to protect this planet. I am a true Andalite warrior on the inside of my spirit. My parents will be proud of me. I have intelligence and pure bravery that my family has encouraged me with. If I can destroy the yeerk race, all humans on earth will be saved. The yeerk slugs will perish as all humans that were infested will get their human bodies back, as well as their lives.”

Hearing that statement, Charm looks directly up at Kyo as she stood up.

{Charm}: “....Really?”

Kyo nods to her.

[Kyo]: “Yes, I thank you all for your kind love and support. I am afraid that I must go. I cannot remain here with you all during my time here. I must focus on how to destroy the yeerk race empire by destroying Queen Vorpax, the head yeerk leader in charge, the Elite one.”

Kyo was going to exit out of the basement but Aria gently holds his wrist.

{Aria}: “Kyo, wait, wait a minute, there is no way you can do this all by yourself..”

[Benny]: “Kyo, dude, how are you supposed to stop these guys? I mean they have control of alien creatures from other evil planets that can do God knows what to somebody as small as you.”

[Kyo]: “I will fight this war using the Andalite’s morphing cube.”

Everyone paused as they looked at Kyo.

{Aria}: “.....Say what?”

[Rome]: “Morphing cube….Morphing cube? Is that what was in that black box thing that you had strapped to you when you escaped the cave with us? That must be what you are referring to. A morphing cube?”

The look on Rome’s face had shifted into a look of pure fascination and being highly intrigued.

[Kyo]: "Yes, one of the Andalites greatest technology devices. The morphing cube."

Ash looked at Kyo confused.

[Ash]: “So what can the cube morph into that can help? Also...Kyo… I’ve been wondering something. Can you tell if you have a yeerk slug inside your head? If not, how can you be certain that you don’t have one?!”

[Rome]: “Ash...”

[Ash]: “Look, again… I’m not meaning to be rude or anything, but we’re just meant to believe this guy on the strength of...of what he says? He says that these yeerks control anyone at any given time so how do we know that he isn’t a slughead?”

[Rome]: “I was talking to him all evening”

[Ash]: “Yeah, and if these things hide and cover things up as well as he says then he’s just going to be telling you what you want to hear! Kyo, can you prove that you’re not… infected? Is that the right word?”

Kyo looks over at Ash.

[Kyo]: "If I was a host, Vorpax would have the morphing cube in her possession, not me. I would have easily handed over the Andalites to the yeerk empire."

Charm walks over to Ash and places her hands on his shoulders for comfort.

{Charm}: "Ash, we have to trust each other or else we are all finished."

Ash melts slightly with the fact that Charm has her hands on his shoulders but quickly maintains composure and gently walks away looking over at Kyo. He nods at Kyo’s words, understanding them, feeling that they are sincere. Ash puts his head down.

[Ash]: “Kyo… I’m sorry. You just have to understand this from our point of view. It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s that I’m nervous. Scared even. I’m… I’m sorry.”

Rome looked at his best friend and took in a bit of a sigh.

[Kyo]: "Taking on the yeerk race can be dangerous and life threatening. I could never allow you to do something that is not of your desire."

[Benny and Rome]: "No, I want to help."

Benny and Rome both looked at each other as they spoke at the same time.

{Aria}: "What does the morphing cube do?"

Everyone was surrounding Kyo in the center of the basement. The sound of a dog barking can be heard outside Rome's basement window.

[Rome]: "Oh, my dog Buster, I left him outside."

[Kyo]: "The morphing cube is a technology device created by the Andalites. It gives you the ability to morph into any animal creature on earth after acquiring it's DNA through touch."

[Rome, Aria and Benny] :"WHAT!"

Buster kept barking outside!

Ash lifts his head up and cocks an eyebrow.

[Ash]: “Well after everything else that’s happened, why not? Kids turning into animals?”

Ash starts towards the steps of the basement heading outside.

[Ash]: “I’ll get Buster. Only one way to find out how this works! Any objections?”

Ash went over to let Buster inside. Buster was a full grown male German Shepard.

[Benny]: "The cube gives you the power to morph? Into Animals?"

[Kyo]: "The Andalites have always had love for the human race and their planet. This planet is inhabitated by beautiful Animal creatures of all walks of life. The Andalites have used the morphing ability to fight off enemies for hundreds of years."

[Rome]: "I love Animals, I study animals all the time and I love science."

Buster kept playfully leaping on Ash and licking his hands.

{Aria}: "Does that include insects?"

[Kyo]: "Yes."

[Benny]: "Other humans?"

[Kyo]: "No, mixing your own human DNA would cause a malfunction interference."

{Charm}: "Will the power hurt us?"

[Kyo]: "Charm, there is so much I can tell you about the power but it should only be told to those who want to possess it."

Ash kept trying to gently push Buster down.

[Ash]: “Hey buddy! Yeah. I know… I’ve missed you too. Come on. Down.”

Buster finally relents and sits down.

[Ash]: Good boy.

Ash looked over at Kyo.

[Ash]: OK… I’ve thought about what you’ve been saying. OK. I’m in."

{Charm}: "You can't be serious! I'm outta here. Aria if you do this, just pretend you don't know me."

Charm exits the basement and takes off.

{Aria}: "Charm, wait up."

Kyo looks over at Rome as he approaches him.

[Kyo]: "I am going to go out into the woods behind the house to meditate on the ground. I need to relax my mind and focus on how to stop this war while I'm here on earth. Protect the morphing cube in your room at all times."

[Rome]: "Yes Kyo, can you give us some time to think for a moment? Don't make any decisions without speaking with us first. We need a little time."

[Kyo]: "Yes Rome."

Kyo heads outside as Rome looks over at the others.

[Rome]: "I want to do this…"

TO BE CONTINUED

Ash could no longer stay with us in the basement. After everyone had gotten the power from the morphing cube, Ash took off. It was important that they keep the morphing cube hidden from the world. Until they could find a secure place, Rome was going to keep it in the bottom of his closet. Now that Ash was gone, they all felt like it would be best to call it a night. They each had their own separate lives. Benny looks over at Rome with a look of concern over Ash.

[Benny]: "I didn't know that stuff was going on with Ash and his mom. Do you think he's gonna be ok?"

[Rome]: "Yeah, I know him very well. Honestly, Ash is a lot tougher than he looks. We can go to his house to check on him first thing in the morning."

Everyone was heading out to go home.

{Aria}: "Rome, how are we going to take care of Kyo while he's here on earth with us? I mean…."

Rome shakes his head and cuts her off.

[Rome]: "Kyo can definitely stay with me without blowing his cover. We got this under control, trust me."

Aria trusted Rome and his words. They all had to head back home. Rome's parents were still on vacation, so it looks like Kyo and Rome had the whole house to themselves.

The Next Morning.

Ash was located inside his home at 9:35AM. A fully grown male german shepard dog appeared to be lurking around Ash's house that morning. The dog quickly moves behind Ash's house and begins to stand up on his two paws while leaning up against the back door on Ash's patio.

[Rome]: <Ash… Oh Ash, yoohoooo.>

Meanwhile….

Benny and Charm were spotted heading towards Ash's house after cutting through the neighborhood. As they were walking along the sidewalk, Benny and Charm had a male german shepard dog walking along with them as they made it to the front of Ash's house. Rome had morphed into Buster as he stood around behind Ash's house while Benny and Charm were quickly inches away from making it towards his front door with another german shepard intact.

Ash

I was upstairs and it was 9:00 in the morning. Just twenty minutes before I had a text from Rome to say that he, Benny and Charm were arriving very soon. I quickly got dressed and checked on Mom to make sure that she was OK. I helped her out by helping to get her dressed just before they arrived and she sat me down on her bed looking very depressed.

[Jeannie]: “I’m sorry, Ash...”

Surprised by this I looked at her confused.

[Ash]: “For what?”

[Jeannie]: “For being a burden to you. It’s summer - you should be out with your friends having fun and here I am needing you to help with everything!”

I leaned over my mom giving her a sincere hug.

[Ash]: “You, pretty lady don’t need to be sorry about a thing. You are not a burden. You never are or were. We are going to get you better Mom, I swear it”.

[Jeannie]: “It’s too late for me, Ash...”
I took my Mom’s hands struggling to hold back tears. I wiped my eyes and smiled a calm sincere smile and put a hand to her cheek.

[Ash]: “Mom. Don’t you ever say that again. We are gonna get you well if it’s the last thing we do.”

Mom smiled kissing me on the forehead. We both knew what I was saying was probably not going to happen but I had to give her some hope. We both had to hold on to something. ‘These yeerks will pay’, I swore, in my head. I was just about to say something else when the doorbell rang. I checked my watch, heading downstairs - 9:35 - perfect timing. I checked the back door and there was Buster, Rome’s german shepard up against my window.

[Rome]: <Ash….yooohooo!>

I heard Rome’s voice in my head. I opened the door realising that what stood in front of me was not Buster at all, but…

[Ash]: “Rome?!”

The german shepard started to wag its tail just as Benny and Charm turned up at my door, smiling and nodding. I put a finger to my lips for everyone to stay quiet as I shouted up to my Mom that I was heading out, she shouted back that it was OK and to be careful. I shut the door and everyone followed me around the side of the house and back into the street.

[Ash]: “It works then?”

Charm

Aria will be the first to tell you that Charm is a loving and caring person. That’s actually the main reason why she is so close with her family. She can be very sympathetic. Ever since Ash broke the news about his mother, Charm literally developed an even softer heart for Ash on the inside. Benny, Ash and Charm had quickly stepped away from Ash’s house as they made their way down the neighborhood street. Rome in his german shepard morph quickly and playfully jumps on the side of Ash.

[Rome]: <Yee Hahaha!>

The other german shepard dog that accompanied Benny and Charm to Ash’s house had quickly ran up next to them along the streets. Both dogs were on each side of them.

[Kyo]: <These dog senses are highly impressive.>

[Ash]: “Kyo?”

Momentarily Ash looked surprised but honestly, what was there to be surprised at anymore?

[Ash]: “Hey, Rome, did it freak Buster out to see a carbon copy of himself stood in front of him this morning? Anyway, I’ve had a plan for my primary morph! To the mountains!”

Charm wrapped her arm around Ash’s waist and pulls him in closely towards her while placing her finger softly against her lips.

{Charm}: “Ssshhh, not so loud…”

Charm and Benny were looking around the neighborhood to make sure people were not around. It was still early that morning, but a few cars were driving off to work.

[Rome]: <Me and Kyo had acquired Buster’s DNA, it didn’t freak him out because he drifted off into a deep sleep after we had acquired him. You know how much I love my dog, so of course it freaked me out to see Buster passed out, but Kyo said that he would wake up eventually. It took me an hour to figure out how to even morph into this thing. Kyo said that we really have to focus on the animal when it becomes apart of us.>

[Kyo]: <So fascinating, these senses, the hearing the smells, just fascinating.>

Kyo was walking a little further ahead than everyone else. On the outside looking in, it looks like three teens walking their two german shepards for a morning walk.

Once Charm had put her hand around Ash’s waist, he smiled but made sure he spoke in whispers.

[Ash]: “My bad. But honestly, everyone on this street is deaf as anything anyway. So anyway… the mountains house wolves right? That’s my primary morph. Everyone thinks that wolves are feral savage creatures when in fact they are some of the smartest creatures on Earth. Let’s go.”

Ash looked around at everyone who now seemed a little apprehensive about bumping in to a real life wolf, but Ash had a plan.

[Ash]: “Wolves never forget things. Rome, remember when I was about seven and we were playing with that wolf cub up in the mountains?”

[Rome]: <Sure, but….>

[Ash]: “That wolf cub is now fully grown. I came back a few years later and tagged it. You know my uncle works in animal welfare. We’ve been keeping tabs on him. All we have to do is find the one tagged with a red ring around his leg.”

Benny and Charm looked at Ash like he had lost his marbles. Maybe he had.

[Ash]: “I took a walk the other night on the way home after the underground cave. I saw him. It’ll work.”

[Benny]: “Dude! Chill Out!”

Everyone stopped including Rome and Kyo as they turned to look at their friends. Charm had a look of concern as she looks at both Benny and then Ash…

A sudden flashback began to roll through Benny’s mind as he remembers walking down the school hallway with his friends Devin, Tommy and Josh as they spotted Ash by his locker and quickly began to howl like wolves howling at the moon. Josh had asked him if he howled last night before getting up in the morning. They all can be seen laughing as they walk away and down the hall.

Benny quickly snaps out of it as he looks at Ash and sighs.

[Benny]: “Ash, this stuff has been stressing me out a little, I didn’t…..”

Out of nowhere, Benny’s ex-friends Devin, Tommy and Josh were jogging down the streets in workout clothes. They ran past Benny with his friends and Josh calls out to him.

[Josh]: “Hey Benny, we were going to ask if you wanted to come out for a jog with us, but we remembered, you are no longer on the football team. Hey, we could always use a mascot! Haha!”

The boys laughed as they jogged away. Rome began to bark rapidly as he chases after them!!! The boys yelled out of fear as they looked over and spotted Rome chasing them down along with Kyo beginning to bark like crazy and chase the boys down!

{Charm}: “Oh gosh….”

Ash, Benny and Charm quickly run after them!

Oh man… Now what’s he doing?! I thought to myself as we chased after DogRome. I admittedly thought it was a little funny seeing Tommy and his goon squad get a little comeuppance but I quickly had to think fast… So I whistled and watched DogRome come to a halt and I put my arm around him, securing him.

[Ash]: “Hey sorry!”

I shouted after the goon squad smiling.

[Ash]: “I guess he’s still getting used to his surroundings! But I wouldn’t do anything else to annoy him.”

I tried to thought speak Rome, wondering if it worked in human form.

[Ash]: “Nice job?”

Thought-Speak only works when they are in a morph. Rome can communicate with them but they can't respond back unless they morph. Kyo continued to bark as Kyo chased Devin and Tommy down the street. Benny rushes down the street after Kyo!!!

Charm tries to catch up with Benny!

Rome BITES Ash on his arm!

Grrrrrrrr!!!!

The aggressive glare in Rome's eyes as he growls dangerously at Ash….

Rome was ready to pounce as he chases Ash down the street!!!

Kyo was on a rampage chasing the boys down the street with Benny and Charm trying to catch up! Ash was running down the block with Rome barking on his tail!

Kyo quickly stops chasing them as he stops dead in his tracks!

[Kyo]: <Aaargh! I must control it! I must control it! Aaah.>

Ash caught up with everyone as Rome was looking at Ash like it was dinner time!

[Kyo]: <Rome, control the animal’s brain, control him, you must control him.>

Grrrrrrrr……

[Rome]: <Woah! Woah, I got it, I got it, woah...Ash man I'm sorry…>

Ash held his arm in pain and couldn’t believe that his friend since childhood would bite him. He looked genuinely hurt by this realisation, but then realised that it wasn’t actually Rome himself. Rome sat down looking up at Ash who in turn looked down at him with a half smile.

[Ash]: “Sooo. Now you’ve got a taste for human flesh, are you gonna eat me in my sleep at the next sleepover we have?”

Rome wagged his tail in response causing Ash to raise an eyebrow.

[Ash]: “Come on. Let’s head to Rockwell Mountain Range.”

{Charm}: "Ash, we gotta get you healed first."

It took another good 6 minutes until they made it through the woods and back over to Rome's house. Rome's home had the perfect privacy, the next house within these woods was way further down. Devin and his goons were long gone. Aria was waiting for everyone as she was sitting out on Rome's front porch.

{Aria}: "Hey guys, I been waiting for you. What's up?"

Everyone quickly went inside Rome's house as Charm looks at Ash in his eyes….compassionately.

{Charm}: "You want to be in this war so bad. I know how bad you want to do this, but you gotta be able to help yourself first. You must acquire Buster and try to morph into him. It will heal your bitten arm, plus maybe even your lip and eye after what Josh and his friends did. Kyo told us that morphing and demorphing also heals our human bodies back when we switch back to our DNA."

[Benny]: "Buster is down in the basement."

Ash looked at Charm, seeing the sincerity in her eyes. He knew she was right. The realisation of this war had gotten Ash way too ahead of himself. If Ash lost everything right before even the first hurdle, what would be the point of fighting? Ash took a step back, closed his eyes for a few seconds and then opened them.

[Ash]: “Right.”

Ash headed towards the basement and whistled for Buster.

[Ash]: “Hey! Buster! Buddy?”

The gang heard trotting paws on the ground after a few seconds as Buster came up the stairs wagging his tail. Upon seeing Ash, Buster once again tried to jump up at him with glee but Ash pushed him down gently.

[Ash]: “Sit! Good boy… I promise this won’t hurt. So Kyo… I just place my hand, touching him?”

[Benny]: "Yeah, focus by touching him and acquiring it's DNA. Kyo said we must focus on the animal becoming apart of us."

Everyone was inside the living room as Kyo and Rome began to demorph in front of everyone. Aria and the rest of them except for Ash who was trying to concentrate began to watch as Kyo and Rome started to change back.

Kyo was better at demorphing than Rome was since he was moving a little bit faster. The fur began to shift into human skin as Kyo grew taller with his arms and legs growing out. Rome was starting to demorph faster as his tail sunk in.

The demorphing process looked like creepy mutation as they could not stop staring. Once the process was complete, Kyo and Rome stood before them. Kyo was dressed in socks, fitted jeans and a tank top shirt…..Rome on the other hand...was butt naked.

[Rome]: "Aaah!"

Rome quickly jumps over the couch to hide his body. Benny, Charm and Aria laughed a little. Of course Rome had nothing to be ashamed about, genetically Rome was a nice looking African American teen.

[Ash]: “Guys, please!”

Ash concentrated his thoughts and he could feel his whole body pulsate with a tingling sensation.

[Ash]: “OK…. now what? Just like think about becoming Buster?”

Ash looked at Benny who nodded. Ash shrugged his shoulders and thought about becoming a german shepard. Suddenly the world was different, Ash was seeing things from a shorter point of view. He noticed sounds that he didn’t even hear before, smells he couldn’t even smell! It was intense! Unsure for certain whether it worked or not, Ash sat down and looked at everyone.

[Ash]: <Uhh?>

Rome used pillows to cover his body parts as he rushes upstairs to put on clothes!

All eyes were on Ash who was now a dog.

{Charm}: "Ash, you did it!"

[Kyo]: "Be careful Charm, we have to make sure that he can control the brain."

[Ash]: <You mean just in case I wanna eat Charm you mean? I could...I would never...>

Before Ash could finish, he sensed a tug of war going on inside his head between his own brain and the animal that was now a part of him. Ash could feel himself growl incessantly.

[Ash]: <NO! I won’t let you touch her! You’re listening to me and that’s that! AAAAaaaargh!!!!>

Ash in his dog form ran off into the other room before Charm came to any harm.

[Ash]: <I’ll…. Be right back.>

Rome came back downstairs fully clothed.

[Rome]: "Is everybody ok?"

Kyo had a serious look forming on his face as he looks at everyone…

[Kyo]: "Training session…."

[Benny]: "Training session? Say what?"

[Kyo]: "We did training sessions on my planet. I think a training session would be good for us. Yes, training session…"

Kyo smiled….Aria raised her eyebrow.

TRAINING SESSION.

Benny and Charm took the time to catch Aria up on everything that happened this morning. Kyo thought that a training session would be good for them. He suddenly turned into a sergeant in the military!

First….Kyo made sure that everybody acquired DNA from Buster.

Then, he made each of them morph into Buster, including himself. One by one they all had to morph Buster, then demorph back!

Charm was the ONLY one who struggled to morph. It turns out, Ash, Kyo, and Benny are the best at morphing and demorphing the fastest. Then Kyo had each of them running drills in their dog morphs as they each took turns running through the woods behind Rome's house. Charm had finally got the hang of morphing and once she finally figured it out? She actually ended up loving it more than she thought she would!

Her favorite part was the dog's agility! She kept leaping over the rails of Rome's front porch!

The time was now 3:17PM

Still early, which was a good thing.

One by one, Ash, Rome, Benny, Kyo, Aria and Charm had demorphed as they all collapsed on the floor of Rome's basement.

Ash, Benny, Kyo and Aria were fully dressed except for their shoes. Rome was just in a pair of boxers and Charm was just in her bra and panties. Kyo was the first to get up off the floor.

[Kyo]: "Well done."

Rome was breathing like Kyo just kicked his a** in the gym!

Ash was sitting on the floor with his knees to his chest like before, and smiled looking over at Kyo.

[Ash]: “That… was cool.”

Ash then met the eyes of Charm and stared softly.

[Ash]: Charm I… You know I wouldn’t have bitten you right?

Like a lightbulb had just come on in his head, Ash checked his arm. It was 100% healed. He was fine.

[Ash]: “How’s my eye?”

{Charm}: "It looks great Ash and yeah, I know you wouldn't have bitten me."

They all stood up.

[Kyo]: "Rome and Charm must work on morphing back with their clothing attire. Overall, everyone seems ready to own this power."

Buster was off somewhere taking a nap.

[Benny]: "I'm starving, all that morphing and running around builds up an appetite."

Ash smiled at Charm and when Benny mentioned getting food, Ash agreed.

[Ash]: Who’s for burgers? I’m buying.

Ash finally stood up and retrieved his shoes. He then went to find his wallet.

Benny and Ash went out to get McDonald's. They arrived back with everyone's food as they all sat around and ate at the dining room table. Ash knows that Rome likes his Big Mac with extra lettuce and extra mac sauce. They sat together at the table.

[Benny]: "So, this is it? We can do this, we can actually morph."

It was hard not to notice Kyo's reactions to the smell of burgers and fries. He chewed on the fries and felt like he was in heaven.

[Rome]: "How did it feel guys?"

Ash looked at Kyo and smiled a toothy smile.

[Ash]: “Felt like how good Kyo is enjoying a double cheeseburger right now.”

Ash laughed slightly and gulped down some banana milkshake before continuing.

[Ash]: “It was fun. Did anyone else feel… I dunno… free? Like they could do anything right that very moment?”

[Rome]: "Yeah."

{Charm}: "Morphing into animals, once I became the dog, I got everything that the dog has…."

{Aria}: "The strong sense of smell, the hearing and his quickness. Buster has been living an awesome life and we didn't even know it."

{Charm}: "How do we keep our clothes on? I mean, I don't wanna be exposed."

[Benny]: "Nice panties by the way babe."

Charm throws a napkin at Benny.

[Kyo]: "Meleknetic energy."

[Rome]: "What?"

Kyo ate three double cheeseburgers and was now working on the fries. He liked the way his jaws ate down on the food.

[Kyo]: "The Andalites have re-worked on the morphing cube over the years. During the last 30 of human years, they have created the power to where you can shift the clothing around you and generate it into an energy created by Andalites known as Meleknetic energy. When you morph, the attire close to your body will shift and dissolve during the transformation. Once you demorph, everything will return to it's form. You must focus on the process for the full transformation to work."

[Benny]: "I get the feeling the Andalites created the cube to allow humans to use the weapon if they ever gained access to it."

[Rome]: "I'll get better at morphing with my clothes."

[Benny]: "Focus on clothing that is well fitted. Workout tennis shoes and fitted shirts. Stuff like that."

{Aria}: "....Are we ready for this?"

Everyone looked over at Aria.

[Rome]: "We will be…."

Rome

Once they had all finished lunch, everyone had assembled in the living room.

[Rome]: “Let’s take a little break, in fact, let’s not see each other for the next three days.”

{Charm}: “What? Why?”

Rome was pacing up and down his living room as he looks over at everyone.

[Rome]: “We have to make sure that nobody is on to us about what we are doing. We gotta continue to lay low. This may be a war but it’s a silent war. The last thing we need to do is appear as though we are a team, even though we are becoming one. We gotta continue to live our lives and be normal. Three days won’t kill us and I doubt that Vorpax will have the whole entire world under her control by the time we get back. We need to take a breather and really think things through. Kyo and I will focus on coming up with some game plans. We can all branch off and do our own thing before we meet back up in three days.”

{Aria}: “We can continue to practice on the morphing ability when we are alone and in private. The whole working on doing it with our clothes. I know that Charm and Rome are the main ones struggling with that.”

[Rome]: “My parents will be coming back home soon from vacation. I know that I can keep Kyo hidden from them while he is here with us on earth.”

[Kyo]: “I am highly trained in surviving in the woods and the forest. During the time I am away from Rome’s home, I shall be in the woods behind his house.”

[Rome]: “Both of my parents work at their jobs, during those times I can have Kyo in the house with me. I can keep him clean and fed well with food. It feels like a big responsibility but Kyo can definitely take care of himself.”

Well, Well, Well, isn’t this somethin’? Rome was turning into a leader…

[Rome]: “We all want to deal with these yeerks, but we gotta be smart about it. Once everybody is well rested and focused, we can meet back at my house when my parents are gone. We just have to promise each other to not do anything crazy. Ok?”

{Charm}: “How do we even go after these yeerks, especially if we don’t know who is the enemy and who isn’t?”

[Benny]: “Charm, we will cross that bridge when we get there but Rome is right. We gotta relax, we won’t do anything crazy.”

Benny stood up.

[Benny]: “I know we can take these guys down, together. All we gotta do is keep our secret and be cool.”

[Kyo]: “Remember the pact that we made, we must be careful with this power.”

{Aria}: “Yes.”

[Benny]: “So, is everybody on the same page?”

Ash looked around at everyone thoughtfully.

[Ash]: “Sure. Sure. There’s one thing that I’m wondering though. Kyo, the girls are quite obviously girls but they acquired the DNA of Buster - a male german shepard.”

[Benny]: So…?

[Ash]: “So! Does that make the girls boys when they morph?”

Everyone shook their heads at Ash who continued to point out that it was a serious issue.

Three Days Later

Rockwell Hills always has the best weather during the summer. Summer break was still going on and it felt good not having to worry about homework. Not a day goes by that Rome doesn't think about what happened down in the underground cave. It's been three days since he's seen his friends except for Ash and Kyo of course. It was a thursday afternoon and today was the day that everybody was going to meet up at Rome's house.

Ash was the first to show up, Rome was sitting on the stairs outside at the back of his house on the back porch. Kyo was going for a walk in the woods but he'll be back shortly. Kyo loves nature and the outdoors. Ash walks over to Rome and greets him with a one arm hug.

[Rome]: "Sup boy"

Sitting next to Rome on the back porch stairs, Rome calls out to Buster.

[Rome]: "Buster! Here boy."

Buster came running from the left side of the house wagging his tail, he approaches the boys.

[Rome]: "I'm glad that you got here before the others did….I been wanting to talk to you."

Looking over at Ash, he knew that this was going to be a deeply rooted conversation. You can look at the brotherly love in Rome's eyes. They were both alone, so it seemed like the perfect time to talk. I'm sure Ash knew the emotion that Rome was feeling.

[Rome]: "I been….I been thinking about you. We've been best friends for so long and I want you to know that I'm here for you. Truth is I'm scared for you bro. Everything going on with your mom and everything we got going on right now. Ash, the behavior in you, I felt like you anxiously want to do some yeerk damage. I just don't want all of this to break you. I don't want this to effect being the loving guy you are."

Ash looks at Rome and half smiles. He knows Rome can see through him so he doesn’t even try to lie.

[Ash]: “Maaaaaan. Look I mean… It’s bravado to big myself up. Listen, when we were growing up and we got bullied, it was you that stuck up for me. Every freakin’ time. I wasn’t a fighter. Never was. Never thought I could be. Yeah I act jokey around Charm because I want her to like me… Truth is? With this power…. I can finally do something to pay you back. All those times you dragged me back out of my locker and dusted me down. I make jokes because I wanna make a horrible situation bearable. I make jokes so I’m not burdened with the thought of my Mom every five seconds! I’m still me… I just...I’m trying to cope.”

Rome nodded.

[Rome]: "I just don't wanna have to worry about you dude."

Rome's tone of voice was a bit shaky.

Ash turns to Rome and puts his arm around him.

[Ash]: “Bro, you KNOW if I needed your help I would be right there! Man I wanna say this as sincere as possible - you know when I’m lying, make sure I’m not”

Ash looks deadpan at Rome, right in the eye.

[Ash]: “I promise you. I’m fine.”

Ash crosses his arms

[Ash] “Was I lyin’?”

Rome was going to respond but quickly caught off guard by the arrival of Benny, Aria and Charm.

{Aria}: "Hey guys."

Rome and Ash stood up to greet them. Rome commanded Buster to go out into the woods to get Kyo. Once Kyo arrived, the whole group was reunited. Everyone went inside Rome's house as he took everyone upstairs into his attic. Rome's parents has a nicely sized upstairs attic with hardwood floors and equipment.

[Benny]: "How have you guys been? Good?"

Aria heard Benny ask how they was doing as she looked around Rome's attic.

{Aria}: "Good."

[Kyo]: "How has the morphing been?"

{Charm}: "Much better, I figured after being away from each other for three days, one of you guys had a plan for us."

[Rome]: "Well actually, I do."

[Benny]: "Oh yeah?"

[Rome]: "Bird Sanctuary…"

[Kyo]: "Rome told me that there is a town outside of this area that has a number of your animal creatures with wings?"

{Aria}: "Bird Sanctuary? Yes, I know about that place. It's like a zoo for a lot of the wild birds."

Benny shot up with joy!

[Benny]: "OH SNAP, are we gonna fly?"

Ash looked at everyone and shuffled his shoes, standing up.

[Ash]: “I went there when I was a kid. It even has species not native to the US. It’s pretty cool. If we’re gonna learn to fly, we better get on it. I’ll check they’re open”

Ash gets out his phone and tries to bring up google but it keeps failing.

[Ash]: “Damn it, Rome… I thought you were sorting out a new modem?”

What they don't know about Rome is that for the past couple days, Kyo has been secretly turning into Rome's personal mentor. Due to Rome's compassion, love for animals and astrology, Kyo for some reason feels that Rome can give the team good direction as a leader. Instead of mentioning that to them, he decided to focus on taking charge. He actually wasn't nervous about it.

He stood up in front of them while Benny stood behind them.

[Rome]: “In order to beat this invasion, were gonna have to know where they are and how to destroy them. We gotta be the type of group that can come together and know their game plans and know how to stop them. What we need is transportation. We need the ability to fly.”

{Aria}: “Whenever we morph into an animal, we automatically develop their skills and abilities. If any of us were to morph into any type of bird, we would automatically know how to fly because we will be the bird ourselves.”

[Benny]: “Exactly.”

Kyo had his arms crossed as he circled everyone a little bit.

[Kyo]: “To be a true Andalite Warrior, we must know how to handle the yeerks in any given situation. These birds of prey animals you speak of, they seem to be very gifted.”

{Charm}: “We all should acquire some type of bird of prey. It’s getting difficult having to travel everywhere on foot. So I guess we really are going to the bird sanctuary.”

[Benny]: “Were going today, right?”

[Rome]: “Most definitely.”

[Kyo]: “Hmmm, I have been able to read up and study on hundreds of animals on planet earth when I was back at my Andalite home. During my years, I have always been able to study as much as I can about earth. Studying their language of communication and their living creatures.”

[Rome]: “Heh, Kyo likes to watch a lot of television down in the basement.”

Benny started pacing back and forth a little bit as he was deep in thought.

[Benny]: “We need the ability to fly no question, but we also need to be able to crack some skulls. When we were all trapped in that cave, we pretty much had to run for our lives. We can’t run every time the yeerks try to come after us. I mean, they got those Baseliaks looking freaky alien creatures, plus God knows what other alien races they own as hosts. I’m not gonna be running from these things. I told Rome that he’s going to need some offense. I brought the offense on the football field and I can bring the offense on the battlefield.”

Aria shook her head with a smirk.

{Aria}: “Hold on playboy, you are not the only one who is going to be cracking some skulls. This morphing ability is the only powerful weapon we have working for us.”

[Rome]: “Exactly, which means were gonna have to be smart about how to use it. The morphing power is the thing that is going to protect us. The main thing that we have working on our side is that these yeerks do not know that WE know what they are doing on this planet.”

[Kyo]: “Being able to morph allows us to be in locations without being seen. We will be able to morph into strong animals to fend off enemies and morph into animals that will help us move from place to place.”

{Aria}: “Oh yeah, being able to fly will get us to places a lot faster. Bird sanctuary is a great idea.”

{Charm}: “What about us having to fight the yeerks?”

[Benny]: “In order to get rid of these evil slugs, were gonna have to kill them off as much as we can. One way or another, in order to win this war? We are gonna have to face off against these yeerks, it’s us against them.”

{Aria}: “Kyo, what kind of alien enemies are we going to be facing? I mean, we saw those baseliaks in the cave, do the yeerks have any other groups of alien creatures working for them?”

[Kyo]: “...Yes.”

{Charm}: “Like what…”

[Kyo]: “The Klemmers.”

[Benny]: “The what?”

[Kyo]: “The Klemmers are an alien race that have also been infested by the yeerks. They were a peaceful race on their own planet until the yeerks took over their planet. They are big in size, they have strength with their arms. They are much more aggressive than the Baseliaks.”

{Charm}: “So the yeerks got the Baseliaks and these things called the Klemmers?”

Kyo nodded as Rome threw his hands up and nodded with a decision.

[Rome]: “Alright guys, we got a yeerk war coming our way and we need to be prepared for it. Kyo says that the morphing ability will allow us to know how to use whatever animal we morph into because we will become that animal itself. So, what do we have to be afraid of?”

{Charm}: “Dying….”

One by one everyone looked at Charm.

{Aria}: “....I will take that risk, we all have to do this.”

[Benny]: “I get to fly AND possibly be face to face with a real life alien freak from another planet? HA.”

Benny chuckled to himself.

[Rome]: “The bird sanctuary allows the visitors to get up close and personal with all of the large birds it has. Being able to acquire one shouldn’t be hard for us. I’m sure they are going to have bird keepers and bird trainers everywhere, but all we gotta do is get close enough to touch one and acquire it’s DNA.”

{Charm}: “They have a variety i’m sure, so we have to touch them long enough to acquire it.”

[Benny]: “If we distract the bird trainers long enough, we should be able to acquire some birds of prey DNA. Just make sure you guys find one that looks like it can fly well in the skies.”

[Kyo]: “Always remember to not let the animal brain takeover your mind but to also be sure to allow the animal brain to help you gain control of the animal and know how to truly use the animal to your advantage.”

[Benny]: “Yes sir, yes sir.”

Benny grins at Kyo.

{Aria}: “If we are going to need morphs to kill and defend ourselves, where should we go?”

Rome and Ash both look at each other.

[Rome and Ash]: “The Rockwell Hills ZOO.”

Kyo looked confused.

[Kyo]: “Zoo? Zoo, yes, the human attraction where animal creatures are kept for human enlightenment?”

{Charm}: “Yeah Kyo, something like that.”

Rome felt really good about these decisions.

[Rome]: “The Rockwell Hills Zoo is the biggest and the best Zoo ever. It’s been on the Animal planet channel twice and it’s won awards for the most popular Zoo among the other cities in this country. Yes, of course, Rockwell Hills Zoo got all kinds of animals.”

[Benny]: “Which means we’ll have a lot of options to choose from.”

Charm stood up from where she was sitting.

{Charm}: “Well, if a yeerk infested alien tries to kill me, I know morphing into a German Shepard isn’t going to save me. So, of course i’m down for this.”

[Benny]: “It’s time to send the yeerks packing. We hit up the birds sanctuary and then we hit up the zoo. Being able to fly will get us to the zoo a lot faster. It’s been years since I been to that zoo but i’m sure Rome knows how to direct us.”

[Rome]: “Of course. I been to Rockwell Hills Zoo a million times, it’s my favorite place to get away. I know where everything is, I know where each animal section is. Don’t worry, I will guide everybody.”

{Aria}: “Are we really gonna hit up the Bird Sanctuary and the Zoo all in one day today?”

[Benny]: “Why not? I mean, I know you guys got a curfew, but we can always sneak out and meet back here tonight when the Zoo is closed up. I mean why do we have to play by the rules? This is our planet and if we are gonna get it back? We fight for it.”

Rome and Aria couldn’t help but notice the level of aggression that Benny was bringing to the team. Honestly, Benny was coming off as a real armed soldier. Deep down, it’s probably going to benefit the group in having a guy like Benny around them.

{Charm}: “Ok, fine, i’m down.”

It looks like Rome truly was playing the role of a leader. He looked at Kyo and could tell that he respected his ability to come up with ideas on how to stop this invasion.

[Rome]: “Ok, we hit up the Bird Sanctuary, it’s far from Rockwell Hills but the metro trains will get us there in about a half hour. After were done, later on tonight, at midnight, we sneak out and meet up back here. We are gonna head to Rockwell Hills Zoo. We each gotta pick out something to acquire that’s strong.”

{Aria}: “Nothing cute and cuddly, ok Charm? We are going to need something that knows how to kill.”

[Benny]: “All of the animals should be asleep when it gets super dark. Acquiring them while they are all in dream land should make it easier.”

[Rome]: “Looks like it’s game on, are you down Ash?

Ash smiled and looked around at everyone and fist bumped Rome.

[Ash]: “You know I am. But… I’ll meet you guys there. There’s uh… something I gotta do first. OK?”

Rome looks over at Ash curiously…

[Rome]: “Care to share?”

Ash fumbles around hands in his pockets and checks his phone.

[Ash]: “Hospital appointment for Mom. Meet you guys around 4pm at the zoo?”

Charm was a bit concerned now that he brought up his mother. Walking over to him, she was getting curious.

{Charm}: “But, if you don’t come with us to the Bird Sanctuary, you won’t have a flying morph. How about we just hold this off until you are done with Mom?”

Ash smiled sweetly at Charm. All his life he had wanted to talk to her, hang out with her and yet here she was - everything Ash had ever wanted stood in front of him and yet, as luck would have it? Now the fate of the world rested on their shoulders.

Damn sod’s law.

Thought Ash. He put one arm on her arm comforting her.

[Ash]: “Don’t worry. I’ll meet you guys later.”

Ash began to walk away, getting a phone call as he did so.

Ash

I know the fate of the world rests with me, with us. But goddamn if I can’t just have five minutes peace. I picked up my phone just as Uncle Sam started ringing me.

[Ash]: “You got him, Sam?”

[Sam]: “He’s here. But I don’t know what you want with him.”

[Ash]: “I’ll be over later. Mom needs to go to hospital.”

[Sam]: “I’ll drive.”

[Ash]: “Thanks.”

Sam met me at my house and we all drove to Mom’s hospital appointment. This time, things were looking up the doctors said but in the back of my head I wondered if that was a yeerk talking. My Uncle Sam stopped me in the corridor.

[Sam]: “Ash, I’ve got Jeannie. Would you mind taking Laurie off reception at the sanctuary and locking up? It’s almost 4. You know we shut early some days.”

[Ash]: “Sure.”

Sam’s sanctuary would be where I acquired my wolf morph. He was snow white and beautiful. Before I left though I gave Rome a ring to say that I was on my way over to the bird sanctuary first.

Meanwhile.

Aria

Aria and the rest of the team were riding on an underground metro train to the bird sanctuary that was located in a completely different city location. The train ride was a good 30 minutes. It was going to be a good feeling knowing that once they gain flying morphs, that transportation would be easy. The 30 minute train ride was over and then it took them a few more blocks until they finally arrived at the beautiful Bird Sanctuary that was owned by some rich old man from Sweden.

[Rome]: “It’s been awhile since I been here, I can imagine what remodeling they have done.”

The team heads into the entrance but then Aria pulls everyone to the side as they began to speak among one another.

{Aria}: “Ok, so, there are a variety of birds here. The bird trainers will allow all of the visitors to pet the birds and touch them, all we gotta do is each acquire one that we think is good right?”

[Benny]: “Yeah, but we have to do some distracting on the trainers in order to have enough time to acquire them. We can do this guys. We need these flying morphs. It took us forever just to get here in the first place.”

{Charm}: “I brought my mini laptop so that we can get some research on the birds that we see today.”

Charm pulls the laptop out of her backpack.

[Kyo]: “Will Ash make it here in time to join us? We all should be capable of flying.”

[Rome]: “Yeah, I trust Ash, he should be here eventually, now let’s get in here.”

Checking his watch just as he reached the bird sanctuary doors it was 4:35 Ash saw everyone ahead of him walk through the other set of doors just ahead.

[Ash]: “Guys!”

No answer - everyone was too far ahead. Ash had to jog to catch up.

[Ash]: “Guys! Hey! Sorry I’m late.”

[Rome]: “Your mom ok?”

[Ash]: “Well they said things are looking up so that’s a positive sign right?”

Ash smiled before pulling everyone in to whisper.

[Ash]: “But you guys… I couldn’t work out whether that was yeerks talking or regular doctors. I’m concerned.”

Ash returns his voice to normal volume so as to appear like a regular tourist looking around a wildlife sanctuary with his friends.

[Ash]: “Anywho! Let’s check these beauties out huh?”

Ash smiles broadly.

They decided to split up a little bit. Kyo, Benny, Ash and Rome were walking together as they went past a few sections that had different birds and their trainers. The sanctuary was massive in size with a huge ceiling. There were different mazes and different sections for different birds.

[Kyo]: “Ash, as a true Andalite warrior you are on the inside, you must not let your mind cloud your judgement. We do not know who is infested and who isn’t, but you must not let the human emotion of paranoia distract you from staying focused.”

Ash looked at Kyo confused.

[Ash]: “So how do we fight who we don’t know, exactly?”

Ash and the boys walked past an enclosure with a small to medium sized bird sat on a tree. Ash began to read the nearby sign.

‘The Sparrowhawk. Found in Europe and the UK, these birds are known to be fast fliers and despite their size are extremely good hunters with extremely good eyesight.’

Ash looked at the bird. The bird looked down at him.

[Ash]: “It’s beautiful. OK it’s no Eagle… but he would suit me...”

Kyo wanted to continue to talk to Ash about what he meant but Rome signaled to him that now was not the time for that.

[Benny]: “Ooooooooooh boy.”

Benny was all smiles as he was in the section of the Golden Eagle. People were gathered around as the bird trainer had the Golden Eagle resting peacefully and disciplined on her arm. Rome and Kyo quickly entered the area as Benny was close up to get a better look of him.

[Benny]: “Wow, he’s a beauty.”

{Bird Trainer}: “Why yes he is, it’s a Golden Eagle.”

[Benny]: “Nice.”

Rome raised his eyebrow.

[Rome]: “Dude, Golden Eagles are big and dominate birds in the sky, they can soar and fly in the air for long periods of time. Yes, the Golden Eagle has always been cool, but dude they are jerks, they attack other birds, I actually find them rather arrogant and they…”

Benny cuts him off.

[Benny]: “Oooo goodie!”

Benny walks over and begins to softly pet and rub his hand against the Eagle’s wing.

[Benny]: “So, Ms. bird trainer, I have to say, he looks quite awesome, ay? He kinda reminds me of me, you know?”

Benny focused on the Golden Eagle becoming apart of him, he needed to concentrate so Rome came over to distract the bird trainer with conversation.



Ash carried on looking at the Sparrowhawk, it just began to take off from the tree and flew down to just within arms reach of Ash.



Ash checked behind his shoulder, Rome was still talking to the Eagle trainer and somehow, no-one else was around. Ash slowly and calmly reached across and managed to feel the feathers of the Sparrowhawk through the fence.

[Ash]: “You’re gorgeous… C’mon...”

Somehow the sparrowhawk didn’t retreat away and Ash felt the tingling sensation through his fingers after a few moments like he did when he was acquiring Buster’s DNA. Ash then took his hand away and smiled to himself.

As Time Passed On…

The girls, Charm and Aria met up with the boys Benny, Ash and Kyo. Rome was further off in another bird section location.

{Aria}: “Hey guys, Charm and I got the same bird, I mean we had a bestie moment.”

Aria smiles and chuckles.

{Charm}: “We got a Gyrfalcon, she’s aggressive and doesn’t mess around when she thinks somebody is messing with her baby birds or her nest.”



Ash smiled at Aria and Charm.

[Ash]: “Yeah. I got mine too. I can’t wait to try him out.”

Ash’s phone buzzed. It was a text from Sam wondering if he’d locked up yet. Ash replied back saying that he would be on the way soon, he just got caught up.

[Ash]: “We have to go to my Uncle’s wildlife sanctuary soon guys… my uncle is waiting for me to lock up.”

They all agreed.

[Benny]: “Kyo acquired a Peregrine Falcon, dude they are the fastest birds on the planet. Kyo found that to be fascinating haha.”



They all began to look for Rome who was in another part of the building. Ash had a feeling that Rome was with the Bald Eagle section since he knows that it’s Rome’s favorite bird.

Rome was spotted pressing his hand on the Bald Eagle’s wings as he acquired him with the bird trainer holding him. Rome signaled for Ash to come over because he needed more distraction. He was almost done….

C’mon, C’mon, C’mon…. Rome thought to himself.

Finally…..Rome officially got it.



Rome pulls away.

[Rome]: “Thank you…”

[Bird Trainer]: “Sure, anytime, you must really like his feathers.”

[Rome]: “Yeah, heh.”

Rome and Ash then left out of spot. They met up with everyone.

[Rome]: “Everybody set?”

They all nodded.

[Rome]: “Let’s roll.”

Once the team was further away from the building, Rome was walking alongside Ash.

[Rome]: “We’re going to your Uncle’s sanctuary? What’s up? What’s going on? How do we get there?”

[Ash]: “Yeah. My Uncle wants me to lock up. I promised I would. It also has that wolf that I mentioned earlier. It’s just outside the Rockwell Mountain Range. He makes other animals get well too. Sometimes we get ones from Rockwell Zoo when their vets need a little more assistance. Want to come see?”

Ash says, winking at Rome.

[Rome]: “Yeah, how do we get there? Train and stuff right?”

Ash smiles at Rome.

[Ash]: “Sure. Orrrrr….”

Ash lifted his arm up.

[Ash]: “There’s trees surrounding the sanctuary. If we flew, no-one would see when we got there. I’m the only one there.”

Rome thought about what he was suggesting but then he remembered a few things.

[Rome]: “Charm bought her backpack and laptop with her. She won’t be able to morph without leaving her stuff behind. Plus, you probably have to carry keys to get into the sanctuary and…”

{Aria}: “Oh my gosh….”

Rome and Ash turned to look at Aria as she was reading a text on her phone.

{Aria}: “I gotta go…I’ll see you guys later, I’m heading to the train.”

{Charm}: “Is it your mom? Your dad? Wait for me.”

The girls took off as Benny and Kyo looked concerned.

[Rome]: “Let’s take the train back bro, this isn’t a good time to try these wings out.”

Ash nodded concerned for Aria. There would be plenty of time to try out the flying anyway.

[Ash]: “OK… you’re right. OK look… off the train, catch the 561Z bus to out of town by the gates to the easy route up the mountain range. From the gates, head right past Julie’s diner. OK? The sanctuary is just further up.”

[Rome]: “Got cha.”

My Uncle Sam’s wildlife sanctuary was a small time operation compared to the larger Bird Sanctuary outside of town and of course Rockwell Zoo and it always surprised me that Rome had never been to the sanctuary. Not once. Despite his love of animals and how close we were. Life I guess. We’d take in mostly small to medium sized animals and nurse them back to health and then release them back into the wild, if we could. If we couldn’t, well, we did have one or two permanent residents. The sanctuary consisted of four buildings in total.

The larger main one was where we housed main reception and very rarely larger animals, (up to about labrador/german shepard sized) and smaller animals out back in the three smaller buildings. In one we had hedgehogs and other small animals, in another, smaller birds, such as doves and pigeons and finally reptiles in the fourth building. It was always hot in the reptile house, what with them being cold blooded and all. A constant between 24 and 28 degrees all the year round. It was NOT fun to be in there in the summertime.

It was about 5:15pm when I got to the sanctuary and Laurie, my Uncle’s receptionist was not looking happy as I had seen through the window of the main building. Laurie was a cute 19 year old red-head with freckles - who I supposed looked like a younger Alicia Witt crossed with Kirsten Dunst. Usually we had a laugh but today I sensed that that wouldn’t be happening. I got to the door and Laurie literally threw the keys at me, almost smacking me in the head.

[Laurie]: “Sam said you’d be here just after four! Where the Hell have you been?!”

I looked at Laurie apologetically and shrugged.

[Ash]: “I’m sorry. I had errands to run.”

[Laurie]: “Errands?! Errands he says… Ash, you are an HOUR and FIFTEEN minutes late! I’m missing A DATE because of you!”

[Ash]: “Well, I’m here now. You can take off.”

Laurie made an annoyed sort of noise and shoulder barged me, slamming the door behind her. I watched her walk to her car and drive away. Shrugging, I did my rounds of the sanctuary making sure that everything was in order. It was then that I saw him.



The wolf cub that I had so long ago nicknamed “Snowy” was now a fully grown Mackenzie Valley WHITE wolf.

I went over to the cage where he was and smiled. “Snowy” lifted his head and softly began to growl.

[Ash]: “Ssh...ssh...ssh. You know me. You remember me, Snowy.”

Just like that, “Snowy” stopped growling, tilting his head as if he recognised the name. “Snowy” sniffed the air as I held my hand out.

[Ash]: “I’m sorry to do this to you buddy. But I need your help, just as you’ve needed mine and Sam’s over the years”.

I got some meat for him to distract him and threw it into the cage and he happily began to eat it. Whilst he was distracted, I took the opportunity to obtain his DNA, concentrating, feeling the energy rush through me. After a while “Snowy” began to drift off into a relaxing slumber and I had the ability to morph into the largest wolf on the planet - one with the rarest colouration as well. I looked at “Snowy” as he slept.

[Ash]: Thank-you, friend.

I rang Rome and he said that he wouldn’t be long away. I took the opportunity to check out the Reptile house. I was surprised to find Iguanas and Geckos. I texted everyone to say that if we need some smaller morphs, my Uncle had Geckos and Iguanas that he was nursing back to health.

These might come in handy I thought.

Rome

As the day went on, Aria had to leave because she had to watch her little brothers while mom is at work. Charm and Benny left to do their own thing. Kyo decided to go for a walk with Buster. Rome's parents were home, so Kyo couldn't hang around the house like he normally would.

It was around 3:46PM, Rome and his mother Jelena came by Ash's mom’s house to visit. Jelena brought Ash's mom some baked homemade sugar cookies. Both women greeted each other with love and a friendly hug. Ash and Rome hung out in Ash's bedroom while their moms spoke to each other in the kitchen with a nice chat and coffee.

After everything that has been going on in their lives, it's hard not to think of anything else but yeerks. Rome sat on Ash's bed, he was hoping that their moms were away from hearing their conversation.

[Rome]: "Everything is going to be ok Ash. I think we did a good job last night. We all heard what we heard and saw what we saw. I can look at Aria and could tell that she is more determined than ever to handle this. I'm not worried about them, it's you I'm worried about…"

[Ash]: “I told you everything was fine, Rome. I told you I’m cool.”

Ash looks at Rome’s disapproving face and shakes his head.

[Ash]: “What, the whole ‘I’m gonna rip Vorpax’s throat out’ thing?”

Rome nods and goes to say something, but Ash smirks and cuts him off.

[Ash]: Maybe I’m sick of waiting around for the fight to come to us. Maybe I...want to hunt. It’s the wolf. I like his instincts and wanna use them! You’ve heard the expression ‘cutting the head off of the snake’? If she has got a hold of my mom somehow or the doctors that are treating her, I wanna find this slimy bitch and deal with her. Deal with her, the others disappear. The others disappear, Mom gets well, Aria’s Dad gets clean properly…. It’s like cockroaches…

**KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK**

Ash opens his door just enough to poke his head through and smiles warmly as he sees his mother standing there.

[Jeannie]: “Ash, honey?”

[Ash]: “Yes?”

[Jeannie] “Jelena and I are going to the store. Do you need anything?”

[Ash]: “No, thanks mom. Be careful. Love you.”

[Jeannie]: “OK. Love you.”

Jeannie heads back downstairs and Ash turns to Rome shutting the door again and crossing his arms.

[Ash]: “Anyway...”

A concerned Rome sighs as he sits on the edge of the bed looking directly at his best friend.

[Rome]: "You are my BEST friend. Do you honestly think I want something to happen to you? You are changing, I know you are. You can't hide your true self from me. Don't tell me it's the wolf instincts when it's your inner emotions getting the best of you. I love you bro but you cannot lose control and get everyone killed. I'm telling you to relax, I love your mom like an auntie and I know that you want to do what's right but I'm begging you to control how you go about this whole situation."

Rome was trying to hide his own emotions as he stood up and paced around Ash's room a little bit. He puts his hands in his pockets.

[Rome]: "You're the last person that I want to argue with man. Our lives have truly changed man, Kyo thinks that I'll be good at leading everyone. He sometimes calls me Rome Warrior. I don't know what Kyo sees in me. All I wanted to do was get us out of the Zoo safely."

He sighs while leaning up against the wall.

[Rome]: "All I want to do is make sure that none of us dies. I can't lose you, I don't want to lose you."

[Ash]: Who’s arguing? I can see what Kyo sees in you. All those times that you took care of Tommy and his goons knowing full well that I couldn’t? You are that warrior. But look… OK...OK… I told you ages ago that I was scared. My mom is dying Rome! And it’s this Vorpax’s fault. I just want to get her. Call it revenge, call it whatever you like. But I want to get her!

Rome walks directly over to Ash and looks at him face to face with heartfelt compassion. The bedroom was silent…

[Rome]: “You rarely even opened up to me about your mom. I didn’t hold it against you that you kept it private for so long. What type of sickness does she have? Do you really think that Vorpax is somehow connected to all of this with her?”

[Ash]: “It’s some really long medical name. It’s not cancer though - I know that. All I know is… It attacks the brain somehow. Like dementia but… actual attacking of the brain. I don’t know for sure if Vorpax is involved but her and her slugs like the brain so it wouldn’t surprise me. But even if they’re not controlling her… they might be controlling the doctors who have a chance to make her right again. Either way… they need dealing with. SHE needs dealing with!”

Rome was listening to everything that he was saying. All he could do was give him as much support as he could.

[Rome]: “I want you to know that me, my mom and my dad are here for you guys.”

Ash looks at Rome and hangs his head. A few seconds go by and Ash hugs his good friend.

[Ash]: “Look Rome… I know I’ve… I’m a bit different to how I used to be… but all of this… the morphing...mom… Charm actually talking to me… it’s overwhelming at times and sometimes -very rarely - I lash out at the wrong people. I know I’ve done that to you a few times and… No amount of me saying sorry will EVER make up for it, but I AM sorry and I… just… sometimes might need alone time y’know? That doesn’t mean that I’m quitting the team, I’m not. But you keep wanting me to get my head straight and I might need time to just do that.”

Rome now had a better understanding of where Ash was coming from and what he was going through.

[Rome]: "I understand, for sure…"

Benny

It 10:35PM, it's been a couple days since the Zoo encounter. I thought that I was going to be spending the rest of the night on the phone with Charm as I laid in my bed until she tells me that she has to talk to me tomorrow. Then, moments later, Rome and Kyo shows up at my house and tells me that I have to meet him in the parking lot behind the Rockwell Hills Mall. It’s late at night, I’m in my pajamas, if Rome wants to meet up this late, I knew that it was for important business. I shifted into my Golden Eagle morph behind my backyard and flew to the parking lot. Once I got there, Rome, Kyo, Charm and Aria were waiting for me. Everyone was there except for Ash.

Once I had demorphed, I was still in my pajamas and tank top shirt. It was dark but we had light coming from the lights posted up on the mall building rooftops. Ash finally arrives as he comes from across the street. Finally, the whole team was assembled.

[Benny]: “I take it this is important? Usually when I sneak out of the house it’s because i’m going to go do something that my parents would normally say no to.”

Benny looks over at Charm and puts his arm around her in a hug.

[Benny]: “Why did you get off the phone with me?”

{Charm}: “Because Aria came to my house with an emergency. Thank God we didn’t wake my parents up.”

Aria looked like her emotions were running HIGH. Rome was getting concerned for Aria’s condition.

[Rome]: “Aria, what’s up?”

She sighs deeply while trying to compose herself.

{Aria}: “I know that I reached out to you guys on an impulse, but this is important and I knew that Rome would kill me if I tried to do this on my own.”

[Kyo]: “What’s wrong Aria?”

{Aria}: “I have been using my flying morph and my lizard morph to spy on my dad all day yesterday. I morphed lizard and hid inside this bag that he carries with him. So, my dad got this job at this “BeYou” organization. I don’t even know what their deal is, but I know where the building is. I eavesdropped on him having a conversation with two other men. No doubt in my mind, my dad is a host. I got some information on what Vorpax is currently up to. My dad and some other guys are heading to that old Brodence factory warehouse that has been abandoned and deserted for years. Vorpax and her yeerk crew has full control of it. They are heading their tonight. Whatever stuff they got going on inside the factory has something to do with her building up the yeerk pool that is obviously underground.”

[Rome]: “The yeerk pool? Yeah, that’s like the yeerk habitat and stuff.”

{Aria}: “Guys, that factory warehouse is massive and it’s away from people to really notice it. It’s like on the other side of the ocean from the Rockwell Hills mountains. I know that the hosts are going to be over there tonight. They must be using that factory to somehow build things to help whatever Vorpax wants to do underground. We need to head over there.”

[Benny]: “Yeah, head over there but then do what?”

[Rome]: “Stop the factory operation, look, we can’t control the pace of how far Vorpax is going to take this invasion but we can definitely slow her down.”

Ash looked at Rome with conviction.

[Ash]: “Then let’s do just that! That slimy bitch’s throat is mine...”

Ash then looked around at everyone.

[Ash] “Getting ahead of myself again, huh?”

Everybody nods at Ash and he puts his eyes down.

[Ash]: “Alright. So… what’s the plan?”

[Rome]: “We can discuss a plan once we get there. Let’s morph out.”

Aria

One by one, they shifted into their birds of prey morphs inside the parking lot. Kyo had morphed first and decided to be the look out person so that nobody saw them morphing. Once they were all morphed, they headed into the late night sky!

All six birds of prey soaring across the beautiful ocean heading to the Warehouse Factory. They were all flying at top speed!

[Kyo]: <If Vorpax is using this facility for her own personal gain for the yeerk pool, then our agenda must involve shutting down the facility itself.>

[Rome]: <Once we get to the factory, let’s stay above the ground so that they won’t notice us. We need to shut the factory down but also make sure that Vorpax can never use this place again.>

[Benny]: <Looks like this is going to require some physical damage…>

[Ash]: <And I left my C4 explosives in my other feathers!>

The factory warehouse was pretty big. Half of the facility was an indoor building and the other portion of it was outdoors. There were wires and large poles everywhere. The place was lit up in lights that were posted high above on steel railings. The whole area looked old and abandoned but the place was filled with people. They each remained in the skies as Aria landed on top of one of the buildings. Looking down in her bird eyes, she spotted individuals walking all around the facility.

{Aria}: <I can hear the sounds of machines operating from inside the buildings. We are gonna have to go lizard to get a full in depth idea on what these operations are.>

[Rome]: <Good idea, but it doesn’t have to be all of us. Me, Kyo and Ash will stay up in the skies looking down on everything. Benny, Charm and Aria can morph lizard and head inside the factory.>

[Benny]: <Roger that…>

Once, Aria, Charm and Benny found a hiding spot, they demorphed and morphed into their lizard morphs.

[Rome]: <Wait a minute, what are those things down there with those people? Alien creatures right? Those are not Baseliaks.>

[Kyo]: <No, they are called Klemmers, the other alien race that the yeerks have enslaved and under control. They are strong.>

[Rome]: <There’s plenty of them down there, are they helping the hosts move things around?>

[Kyo]: <Yes, they have long arms and strength.>



[Ash]: <They’re ugly things aren’t they? I mean, I know they don’t look like Benny, but...>

Ash swooped over to land on top of a nearby lamp post, ensuring to stay above the light and in the shadows for a better look. The fact his morph was small really helped this.

[Ash]: <Guys… do those look like… bombs to you?>

[Rome]: <Bombs? Where?>

Meanwhile.

{Charm}: <Guys, me, Aria and Benny are inside the factory. People are everywhere.>

Benny was climbing up the walls and got a good view at what he was seeing down below.

[Benny]: <Guys, they are building cages, metallic ones. They got the equipment to build the cages moving along these moving belts. They are making a series of cages.>

[Kyo]: <It makes sense now...Cages will be used to imprison new hosts they capture.>

Aria was moving on the floor and she had to be careful not to get stepped on by human feet. The lizard senses are pretty good as she was dodging from being hit.

[Ash]: <Over there, by the entrance to the factory. It looks like an old bomb from World War 2. You see it?>

Ash pauses and begins to think.

[Ash]: <Wait! This factory WAS a munitions factory in World War 2. I remember my Nan saying she worked here, when I was a kid. So they’re building cages for hosts and then what? They’re gonna remove the factory from existence by blowing it to Kingdom Come? That doesn’t seem very ‘behind the scenes’ of Vorpax?>

[Kyo]: <I can't imagine them wanting to destroy this place. This place looks like the perfect place for Vorpax to build her operations.>

Aria found her way on one of the moving belts. The belt was moving under her.

{Aria}: <I don't know if we are strong enough to destroy these solid steel cages. Rome, how are we supposed to shut this thing down?>

[Benny]: <Aria, you are not going to believe this but your dad is coming behind you. I've only met your dad once during teacher's night, but doesn't he kinda resemble Eric Bischoff from WCW wrestling?.>

{Aria}: <Yeah why?>

{Charm}: <Aria he's next to you! Your dad, he sees you on the belt!>

Aria's dad who's name is Ray, grabs Aria in her lizard morph and holds her up.

[Ray]: "Disgusting…"

He throws Aria all the way across the room as she hits the wall and falls to the floor!

{Charm}: <ARIA!>

[Rome]: <Aria, you ok?>

{Aria}: <............>

[Benny]: <Aria….>

{Aria}: <........>

[Rome]: <Ok, don't panic, don't panic, ok guys, everybody move to where you can get closer to Aria, be cautious, these guys are everywhere. Me and Ash gotta go lizard and get in there.>

[Ash]: <Sure we could do that… But I have another idea. You Rome… You… Kyo and Benny morph using your fighters… and cause a distraction. I’ll wolf sneak in, grab Aria… etcetera? I’m not saying for you three to take on the entire army but we need a distraction while someone heads in and grabs her. My wolf senses can pick her up. I found you didn’t I?>

[Kyo]: <If Aria does not demorph, she will die..>

Aria was crawling slowly on the floor as she stayed close to the wall.

{Aria}: <I'm ok…..>

Aria sounded drained.

[Rome]: <Aria where are you?>

{Aria}: <I made my way into a room that's closed in.>

[Benny]: <You just went inside a storage closet.>

Aria began to demorph…

[Rome]: <Our best bet is to shut this operation down by force. We need to cover all grounds. Ash, head to the back way to secure the area.>

Sparrowhawk Ash turned his head to stare at Rome.

[Ash]: <Yessir!>

Ash flew his way off to the back of the factory. Once he got there he did some reconnaissance from the roof.

[Ash]: <Three humans and one of those Benny looking things.>

Benny didn't have the time to react to Ash's comments.

[Benny]: <Aria must be fully demorphed now. I'm trying to communicate with her but she's not responding.>

Aria's dad Ray was heading to the storage closet!

[Benny]: <Aria, Aria your dad is heading to the storage closet. You need to morph back to lizard and get out of there…>

Ray was getting closer and closer towards the door. Benny was hoping that Aria wouldn't be in human form by the time her dad gets to the door….

Ray opens the door…...He yells at the top of his lungs when a Black Jaguar leaps up and tackles him down to the floor!

Rrwwwaaaarrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

[Rome]: <Fight morphs! We gotta help Aria!>

Aria roars right in her dad's face! People were coming to her dad's aid when she leaps up and tackles another man down!

Benny and Charm were both rushing somewhere safe to demorph and morph into fighting mode. Kyo and Rome were outside as they started to demorph and morph into fighting. Aria roared as she leaps over some factory equipment and begins to face off against a Klemmer!

Ash flew down behind some boxes, demorphed and morphed again into the Wolf. He rushed out from behind the boxes, tackling a guy to the ground and ragging him unconcious. Another guy came up behind him and Ash did what all wolves do when hunting - he went for the jugular in the guy’s neck. He remembered just in time that these guys were human so he stopped just in time.

We can’t kill humans Ash thought to himself, also telling the wolf side.

He then ran straight through the legs of the nearby klemmer and headed into the back of the factory ready to join the ruckus. He growled.

Aria dug her claws into a Klemmers arm as the bloody flesh began to show! The black jaguar was quick as she moves quickly down through the factory. Coming from around corner, Benny was in his Lion morph as he goes head to head with a Klemmer charging towards him.

[Benny]: <This ain't Mufasa mother f*cker!>

Benny roars as he charges and leaps after the Klemmer! A lot of human hosts began to run out of the factory. Charm was in Lioness morph as she leaps in to help Aria. The Klemmers are pretty big and was becoming a handful for the girls.

Rome was in his grizzly bear morph as he bursts onto the scene.

[Rome]: <We gotta destroy this stuff, we can't let them have these cages or the factory equipment.>

[Ash]: <Hey Benny! Be prepared!>

Ash leaps onto a klemmer who was sneaking up behind Benny and here Ash went for the jugular taking down the klemmer, quick and clean.

[Ash]: <Rome. Do we have a plan for destroying this stuff?!>

Ash looked around while still in wolf form and he noticed a guy trying to attack him, but the wolf’s instinct took over and Ash dodged out of the way.

[Rome]: <Destroy as much as you can!>

Kyo came charging forward in his Black Rhino on a rampage! He rams his horn into a klemmer and knocks him into some of the factory operating machinery!

Charm was striking her claws and teeth on the legs of the Klemmers! She jumps up and tackles one on it's back and sinks her teeth into its neck like a vampire! She snaps his neck! Aria was using her quick thinking, she quickly kept striking her claws into the computer systems!!!!

Kyo rushes forward and charges once again! Due to the Rhino's size and mass, Kyo was running a muck ramming into the operating systems!

Rome was getting hassled by three Klemmers! The grizzly bear was striking hard blows but one Klemmer smacked him good!

Ash saw the Klemmer full on smack his best friend and Ash was raging! He rushed as fast as he could over to Rome and leapt onto the Klemmer that hit Rome, tackling it from behind causing it to fall to the floor.

Ash then looked over at Rome who was beginning to stand up again and Ash started to back into a corner with klemmers trying to corner him. He saw Rome come up behind these Klemmers and attack them but…

[Ash]: <NO!>

[Rome]: <What?!>

[Ash]: <Go! I’ve got these… go destroy more machinery! GO!!!!>

Ash began to fight more klemmers by going for the throats of each, using the wolf’s superior reflexes to attack and dodge!

[Rome]: <We must evacuate, they might bring in more Klemmers. Let's go.>

Rome runs forwards and strikes down another Klemmer as he strikes his claws down like knives!

Charm leaped down to tackle another one. The operating systems were highly damaged. They all heard what Rome said but they were all in different parts of the facility. Aria was finally outside as she was looking for her dad but he was gone. Kyo headed out as he rammed through any Klemmer that got in his way! Rome was clawing away like a savage as this one klemmer wouldn't stay down.

[Rome]: <Ash make sure everybody's out!>

Ash used his wolf senses to sniff around. Mostly everyone was out… But there were two missing… Benny and Charm! Ash took off immediately towards where he could sense Charm and Benny.

[Ash]: <Benny! Charm!>

{Charm}: <We made it out back!>

Ash was the last one left, the rest of the team made it out of the area and quickly had to demorph in the dark shadows. The only way out is running along the big highway. They all came together along the side of the road except Ash.

[Kyo]: "Ash? Ash!?"

Suddenly a sparrowhawk ended up behind the group and landed on a billboard above them all.

[Ash]: <Careful. I hear getting run over is a bitch...>

Ash then flew the other side of the billboard away from the road and morphed back into human form. He then walked out from behind the billboard smiling.

[Ash]: “Sup? That was a rush huh? Woooo!”

Ash banged his fist into his other open palm.

Charm chuckled and shook her head in disbelief.

They all survived the battlefield. Early the next morning, Charm woke up from her bed. She couldn't shake off what happened last night as she quickly grabs her cell phone to call Ash.

Ash

It was about 7:30 in the morning but I was still buzzing from the fight - I literally had no sleep but I didn’t care. I was never one for fighting when I was just a human but I had to admit… I was quite good at fighting as a wolf! I smiled to myself just as my phone began to ring. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked to see who it was.

Charm?

I felt my mouth run dry suddenly, - was Charm in trouble?! I quickly answered, doing my best to y’know stay calm when talking to the hottest girl in school.

[Ash]: “Hey…Are you OK?”

I ran my hand through my hair nervously.

{Charm}: "Hey Ash, how's it going?"

Charm sounded so innocent…

[Ash]: “H-how’s it going? I’m OK… Not too bad… Still pretty buzzing after last night.”

I laughed a little…

Charm sits up in her bed, she was wearing some short blue designer short shorts with a matching tank top with strap sleeves. The sleeping attire she wore showed off her toned curves.

Ash could hear her sigh over the phone.

{Charm}: "Uuum, well, my parents are out of the house. They are gonna be gone all day. I don't feel like being by myself today. Aria is with her family, Benny is away at a theme park. I figured I would call you instead of Rome. Do you wanna come over?"

I couldn’t believe my ears. Charm wanted to hang out with scrawny little nerdy me… I may have made a celebratory arm movement a few more times than I’m more proud to admit.

[Ash]: “Uhh… Today? Yeah, um let me just check my schedule for today, Charm...”

I paused very briefly.

[Ash]: “It looks like… I’m free!”

I tried to sound as cool as a frozen cucumber but soon began to realise that I probably sounded like a dork. I coughed nervously.

[Ash]: “When uh…? When should...when *ahem* when do you want to meet?”

{Charm}: "Can you come by around noon? I'll make us some lunch."

Charm had a sweet smile on her face.

[Ash]: “I can uh… I can do that. OK… OK see you then, yeah. Bye!”

I hung up my phone and my mom was calling me…

[Jeannie]: “Ash!!”

I quickly rushed to my mom’s bedroom where she was in bed. I carefully poked my head round the door.

[Ash]: “Yes?”

[Jeannie]: “Honey, Can you pop by the store in a bit? We’re out of milk.”

[Ash]: “Sure. Oh mom… you know that girl I like?”

Jeannie smiles winking at Ash.

[Jeannie]: “Stop being coy Ash, everyone knows it’s Charm!”

[Ash]: “Wait, you knew all along? How?!”

[Jeannie] “A mother knows.”

I rolled my eyes at such a cliche answer and entered mom’s room to sit on the end of her bed. She herself was now sat up in bed.

[Jeannie]: “Go on?”

[Ash]: “She’s invited me round at Noon. Are you gonna be OK on your own for a few hours? I’ll only be gone a few hours.”

Mom smiled at me, grabbing my hand.

[Jeannie]: “No you won’t Romeo. You’ll be gone for as long as it takes… You go get her! Don’t worry about me. I’ll see Annie nextdoor. You go enjoy yourself.”

I looked at my mom and smiled. I squeezed her hand and hugged her.

[Ash]: “Thanks. You’re the best. But… I can’t ‘get’ her. She’s with Benny.”

I stood up as mom was shaking her head.

[Jeannie]: “Young love.”

Charm

12:00PM, Charm had a beautiful home with her family. The House was empty but squeaky clean.

Ash should be here any minute, I spent the rest of the morning talking to Benny on the phone. Eventually I had to tell Benny that I'll talk to him later. He didn't know that I had invited Ash to come over. I wanted to be a good host, so I decided to heat up some left over dinner from last night. I told Ash that I would have lunch for him. I could hear the doorbell ringing as I head over to the front door. Once I opened the door, I could see Ash and I simply embraced him with a hug and a smile.
